There was a carnival Barker, in Pinocchio who lured and then boated little boys to a place called “Pleasure Island” and turned them into donkeys.

But of course, that character isn’t “problematic” in any way, now is he?

I was gonna make a post on that. But I planned on reading the book for comparison and never got to it. In the original story it was called Toy Land. And in the Italian movie I watched that was recently released and is very faithful to the source material they named it Island of Toys. Plus they also made Peter Pan the good guy and Captain Hook the bad guy when in the original story Hook was a survivor of Peter Pans serial killing of children he lured to a island and eventually killed when they got too old.

That is terrifying! I had no idea that the original story was so creepy. Might you know where I could read it?

I’ve read all of the Grimm’s fairytales that other Disney movies are based on, and those are all very dark and violent, too.

On google books you can read it for free. Plus on YouTube they have the audio book. I tried to read when I was in school since I saw another classmate reading it but never got into it. I will have to revisit it now.
