They were always waiting in the wings, doing dress rehearsals, sabotaging things, obsessing over their infernal plans, and waiting with bated breath for when they can get to run rampant during the great tribulation the Bible talks about.
My pastor says that, since the time Jesus Christ ascended to Heaven, because there’s no other prophecy/prophetic event left to be fulfilled before the rapture takes place, meaning it could have happened at any time, he suspects the devil has always been preparing a prospective antiChrist in every intervening generation, because while he knows the Bible, he doesn’t know God’s timing.
Which would explain why these people have constantly being salivating all these years, and now that those plans look more real than fiction/daydream, it’s just another sign we’re indeed close to the end.

My pastor says that these instances in the Bible and some others, show that world leaders can be directly influenced by demonic forces.
Just like what Jesus told the scribes and Pharisees,
“You are of your father the devil, and you desire to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and has not stood in the truth, because there is no truth in him. Whenever he might speak falsehood, he speaks from the own; for he is a liar, and the father of it.” – John 8:44.
