does it mean something different depending on which eye is being covered? I thought I had read that somewhere before.

It does and it relates all the way back to ancient Egypt. It’s often called the Wedjat and it can symbolize the eye of Ra or Horus, depending on which eye is covered or highlighted in some way.
The eye of Ra is the right eye and the eye of Horus is left eye, they also relate to the Sun (right) and the Moon (left). The two deities are often combined into one – Ra-Horakty so these two symbols are often used interchangeably.
If you want, you can look into the story of Osiris fighting his brother Set.

Star Wars covers the right eye and only the left one remains shown. The new Tron movie leaves the right eye in shadow and illuminates the left one with a beam of light. This is a good photo collage that shows the 2 most simple ways to make this symbol, so props to you simon for posting this.

On a more physical note, we have 2 eyes because it’s the minimum required amount in order to have depth perception which is very useful for navigating the world and hunting. Losing or restricting just one would make it much harder to gauge how far objects are without relying on memory.

you need both eyes to make quality entertainment… they’re letting us know they’re in it to make money ruining what we love in any way possible… not saying everyone in the entertainment industry is that way, but gaming and movies sure went on a downward slide last few years
