On the last concert Sabbath performed, at the beginning of War Pigs, Tony Iommi flashes the devil horns while wearing a giant silver cross on his neck. Black Sabbath broke ground in 1970 that’s still providing a bumper crop today. What was almost unimaginably shocking and fringe when they first did it is now mainstream Top 40.
Ozzy with the rest of the members of Black Sabbath were given crosses to protect them from evil spirits. Ozzy’s bandmates Tony Iommi, and Zakk Wylde are Christians too. Many of Ozzy’s songs dealt with the occult and horror. In fact, many of their songs warned against evil rather than promoted it. For example, the song “After Forever” has Christian themes and defends belief in God. Was he perfect? No, but we all fall short. I do believe he was a follower of Christ and is with Jesus.
I actually attended one of Ozzy’s live shows (8-9 years ago) and it was honestly awesome. One of the best shows I ever got to see. The drummer solo performance in the middle was a cherry on top.
