Something is rotten in the state of… Germany. Remember thoughtcrime Ministry? (dailysceptic.org)

German journalist David Bendels has been sentenced to seven months’ probation for a meme poking fun at the Interior Minister’s lack of commitment to free speech. Irony is truly dead, murdered by ‘liberal’ authoritarianism.

What do you think?

As a russian, I find it extremely ironic, given all the opinions about free speech in Russia. Tbh I’m even glad I’m back in my homeland now. Oh EU, the beacon of free speech, human rights and democracy. How the turns have tabled.

How though? You can’t choose your nationality, can you? Btw, I’m absolutely comfortable with mine.

I’ve talked to a lot of westerners on the internet and I realized that they hate a version of Russia that was created for them by the media. They don’t know what Russia is, but they THINK they know.

They will argue with me about my own country, where most of them have never set foot. It’s surreal.

Of course, it’s amazing to live in a corrupt autocracy, with a single ruling party, where not even violence against women is taking seriously… Fuck off! Russia lives on the somber of URSS. I hope one day Russians can be free. Until then, I never intend to visit.

It’s like when they talk of many African countries. They don’t know how we live our day to day lives. The power of media is insane something needs to be done about that.

Oh I get it. 100%.
I think the core issue is – people assume that others have done honest research & thinking for them.

So they don’t want to spend time seeking information from different perspectives to create a balanced view.

And I think now doing your research is both easier and harder than ever. There’s tons of information, but also tons of spins on it. Separating facts from “spins” requires deliberate analysis.

This is probably why media wins.
