What do you mean by “M”? Can you give us a bit more information?
What came to my mind was the movie “Cabaret.” I was a teen ager when it came on network tv, but it seemed so weird that I only saw the first half hour. What I do remember is a club called the Kit Kat Club and a creepy emcee in weird clown makeup
Heinz57, as you mentioned, the weird play/movie “Cabaret” is set in the “Kit Kat Klub” (KKK!) just like the NYC place this article is discussing, except in “Cabaret” the club is set in pre-WW2 Berlin.
I just learned recently that pre-WW2 Berlin was extremely sexually degenerate and even depraved… there were even apparently more or less openly known clubs for ped*philia in the city!
I’ve never seen the play or movie “Cabaret,” but from the trailers on YouTube, it looks like a nightmarish scenario with rampant fornication, abortion, homosexuality, and transvestitism. [I try not to say “transgender” because no one can actually change their sex.]
This does not bode well for the new Kit Kat Cabaret Club, NYC, or the US and the West in general.

Holy cow, I had no idea the history of all of that. Really makes this club even darker :/ if you read the captions in a lot of these Instagram posts, they bring up Berlin a lot.
