Ok, so I have had a look at what is actually happening. Apparently the change comes into place, to be able to reverse false convictions.
As examples they state people who obtained material that was obtained to keep children safe, parents that share material with other parents or teachers to keep children safe. Technically everyone who is in possession of such material and shares it is a criminal, even if teen-agers are sending nude pics to eachother.
That, according to German outlets, is the reason for this change, as they simply do not have the resources to deal with “every playground chat”. Apparently there was a one-year-sentence for everyone, but lowering it to 3-6months investigators are more flexible to reverse and a***s the individual situations.
I mean not sure if that is true and what practical implications this has, I was not able to read the linked article, so no idea why pedos are celebrating this, because the sentencing for them would remain the same as this is, as I understood it, only the time to actually assess the case.
So would this mean this news article is lacking some more depth context?
