Regarding Hip Hop, that’s your opinion. Modern mainstream rap is terrible, but conscious Hip Hop has always been filled with beautiful lyrics and insights, from KRS One, to Common, to Lauryn Hill. If you can’t recognize the art there, so be it.
I hardly think songs that praise virtue and provide a meaningful message are “polished turds”.
Is it reasonable to assume that your dislike of the genre correlates with an ignorance of it? I’ve known many to compartmentalize Hip Hop according to what they’ve heard on the radio.
There’s no other genre that can speak truth to power with such gusto. Rock is a close second. You can exercise a tongue of fire to speak truth and attack ignorance in many ways, and Hip Hop’s means for doing so is empowering.
I don’t expect someone who isn’t a fan od the genre to understand.
