More likely the poison has destroyed peoples immune systems and they need something to blame for cancer. Not a reach but an obvious/logical conclusion
Anything that promotes toxicity in the body promotes cancer, because cancer is a detox response. Cancer cells are only a problem when they clog up areas of the body due to excess toxicity.
