The album cover makes it more blatant, but there are many phrases which are allude to mind control, like “losing all control”, “magic in my bones” which can refer to electroshock or other torture. The singer plays the role of a trauma-based mind control slave who tells us about his own dissociation. This mind state is illustrated on the album cover as the skeleton literally loses his mind. The last verse is the most telling to anyone who knows a bit about this topic: “There goes my mind, I don’t mind // There goes my mind (there it goes) // ‘Cause there’s magic in my bones.” The slave is dissociated, so his mind goes to an other dimension and floating above his body, so he sees what happens, but can’t do anything about it.
There is also a reference to the uniting of opposite forces in the lyrics, which is an important concept of occult secret societies like Freemasonry, and these organisations have many links to ritualistic mind control. “There was never gray in black and white // There was never wrong ’til there was right.”
And another phrase alluding to the balancing of opposite principles: ” Burnin’ in the flames I’m workin’ in // Turnin’ in a bed, that’s darkenin’ ”
Of course there’s more to analyze, but I stop here and leave it for the comment section.

It’s always the same song repackaged a million times.
have you also noticed how often the words demon, devil, hell, soul appear in the lyrics of so many songs, lately? not talking about this band only…
I was just telling my kids this the other day. I thumbs them down immediately.
:))
you did a great job with your kids if they listened to you.
just thinking that sometimes we need to open our eyes and ears to the dirt and expose ourselves to some of this stuff in order to help others, especially our youngest ones. It.s part of the homework we, as parents, need to do. I don.t regret hearing the lyrics, watching the videos and stuff – I know what.s in.
We were also unaware, but somehow made it safely into adulthood, but things are nowadays WILD and kids need our awareness and all the help to figure it all out and stay away from all these mermaid-songs more than ever. The media is just one big lure-trap.
Nope, I don’t really see that to be honest. Kinda a reach.
Then what is your interpreation of the song and the album cover? I think it’s hard to explain many phrases in the lyrics without considering the mind control aspect.
Another variation could be related to the fact that band Imagine Dragons are LDS members also. Joseph Smith was a huge practitioner of black magic and the deep church he created is all Masonic based.
