I was so shocked when I was a kid reading the filth he wrote. I mean really nasty stuff. It always made me laugh at how well ppl say he writes because his characters, especially women, are so two dimensional and he sexualises them or hd makes them fat and horrible. It never deviates.
I love the movie “Shawshank Redemption” from the book SK wrote, but I have stayed away from his books over the years and to hear you describe his writing, I guess it’s good that I did.
I was a fan into my 20s from about 15. When I think about it now I shudder. I went back to read a lot of his back catalogue at 40. Wow. Absolute rubbish – he is incredibly over rated as his characters are just stereotypes. But what has happened to him over the last 10 – he’s just utterly politicised his writing and its worse. Frankly only a daft 15 yr old would read it.
The ones he wrote well – tend to not be the horrors. I used to get 3/4 of the way through and realise he could never end a book well.
But even in SR movie male prison rape was a huge feature of the movie. It didn’t have to be. Sure, it could have been mentioned but we were kind of bludgeoned with it. Same as in the ‘The Stand’ there is a male rape scene.

Stopped reading his books when it became obvious he was pos who put child rape in his books
For a reason he put such dirt..but he himself could be under serious mk, alter personalities etc. Used to do the conditioning of his readers.
Kinda common pattern.
i picked up “IT” when I was a teenager and I did not finish it. I don’t like leaving books unfinished, but that one made my teenage self uncomfortable because iirc there were many references to violence against women. It felt like the author was savouring it.
