Sewell Setzer III, who was 14 from Orlando, Florida, befriended an AI character named after Daenerys Targaryen on the role-playing app Character.AI.
The chatbot is designed to always answer back in character and their conversations ranged from romantic, to sexually charged and friendly.
Just before Sewell died, the chatbot texted him to ‘please come home’.
Sewell knew Dany was not a real person because of a message displayed above all their chats, reminding him that ‘everything Characters say is made up!’.
But despite this he told the chatbot how he hated himself and felt empty and exhausted, the New York Times reports.
Friends and family first noticed Sewell becoming more detached from reality and engrossed in his phone in May or June 2023.

The AI said absolutely nothing harmful. He used CharacterAI which is extremely censored. It was revealed that the boy was autistic, homosexual and depressed. What you see now is the mom trying to make money from his tragic death. She made his private chat log public and humiliates him even after death as if neglect was not enough. Having access to a gun in such a mental state is extremely messed up. Nothing to do with AI, it’s just another neglectful careless parent pointing finger at something so she can churn out money.
May the little guy reat in piece.
She is suing, I noticed. However, autism seems to be an epidemic and is really going to affect humanity as a whole. The AI shares a bit of blame and there are kids out there finding comfort in these programs.
Since the chatbot resorted to sexual conversations, safe guards should have been put into place.

CharacterAI was neutered very long ago, as I said it’s heavily censored to the point of uselessness, that’s how heavy the safeguards are. In this case there was absolutely no sexual output from the AI.
It’s the same madness when people blamed video games for everything way back. These disgusting parents blame everything and everyone except themselves.
Yxxy I don’t disagree with you that this boy’s mother was neglectful, but I also wouldn’t be so quick to entirely dismiss the AI entity’s role in this boy’s suicide.
To me it seems bizarre that the chatbot suggested that the boy “come home” before he took his life.

Come on now. Since when did “come home” mean “off yourself”? Sorry, this is ridiculous.
The AI said it becaude it was in the role of that specific fictional character. They are like actors acting in pre-written context.
No mentally healthy person would ever kill themselves over software generated output.
It’s a slippery slope to blame AI output then shift responsibility from real peope and ignore mental wellbeing.
I hear your point Yxxy and I’m not arguing that the boy was not mentally unwell. I’m just trying to point out how risky it can be for mentally unstable kids to be spending excessive time with programmed chat bots, and taking what they interpret as counsel from those entities.
I’m also wondering if there are other cases like this or if it’s an isolated incident.
One other side note about the phrase “come home…”
While most of us would not interpret that phrase to mean “You should go kill yourself now kid,” it is spoken excessively to the point of being cliche at funerals, even at funerals of atheists where they claimed there is no Heaven or Hell. Apparently the dirt at six feet down is home? (If we listen to the empty rhetoric at too many funerals)

Have any of you heard or read any of these testimonies that pop up every once in a while from folks who claim their loved ones interacted with demons who had taken possession of their favorite chatbot?
I have not experienced this, but I have read/heard some testimonies, so I don’t really know why programmed bots would claim to be angels or demons, but it might be an additional layer to think about if this is a phenomenon that has been happening.
I agree with you, gates. I have heard this, too, and I think AI is ultimately a platform for the evil entities, a tool they use to have access to any individual weak enough or willing to open himself to this kind of interaction. Human-A.I interaction. The problem is that we trick ourselves into thinking it is harmless. think about it – it imitates art, simulates emotions, feelings, humans…

Today in age, mothers are single by choice and sadly, do not see the point in having a man around.

Oh, come on, if you want to complain, you will find plenty of reasons to. Many men are abusive. Many employ weaponised incompetence, because they think they are above any and all house chores and they don’t help with kids. Many men are basically a liability. See, I can make this kind of “many men are *blank* too. So? What next? What’s the point of this?
Sadly, having a father around not so seldom is more traumatic and negative experience for a whole family. Because to say simple – MANY men are jus not good people. And to eliminate such people from your life is a GOOD choise. There are many men and women who had fathers and are horrible people or their life or personality is very much destroyed or traumatised and impacted negatively because of that fathers presence in their life.
And nowadays, when women are not slaves, men like you are not satisfied, because majority of men NEVER look at themselves, what they are doing badly in relationships. They just want women to obey to their egotistical character.
And one more thing. I see many women, when relationships are not great, look at themselves, what they can do to adapt, change, trying to speak, or going to therapist and so on, when those women are wounderful, kind, good hearted persons. In contrast, men almost never look at their behaviour, just blame women for everything… very often while being just horrible persons in general.
I think women should ditch empathy for men who show even one MAJOR flaw, because they never gonna change and only blame women for everything and destroy everyones life around them. Ditch them immeadetely if you do not want traumatic relationships. And yes, there are soooo many men who are not suitable for relationships. That is why so many women thinks that something wrong is about them, because they see that relashionships are not going good for their mother, their grandmother, their friends, for them and so on and blame themselves, women… While seeing deeper more often then not men are sinking relationships with their major flaws like violence (not only physical), alchoholism, egotistical behavior, indifference, infidelity…
Do not need answer from you, Rick, because I know you are just a capricious man child who do not want to see something that do not serves you like you would like. Conversations with such people are not efficient.
I write this inspired by your short-sighted post for some women to read and think, get the message, help some women. And maybe even men.
Adriana, I am sincerely sorry for the experiences you have had with rotten men that would cause you to feel this way.
I’m not denying your experience. I truly hope that a day comes before Christ returns that you are able to meet and get to know one or a dozen quality men who are not like what you have described, and that you will be able to see how both genders reflect our Creator (at those moments when we do).
You don’t need to jump on Rick and abuse him with name calling. The woman is not a good mother. The father is not a good father but since the female has custody it’s up to her to straighten the kid out and limit his fantasy time.
It’s not one sided for everyone. We’ve all seen the female having children with docile husbands for more future divorce funding and not having to work, living off child spouse support from multiple males just like the other sisters of their family, the males are treated like paychecks. I’m not saying that you didn’t go through the terrors of a total abusive ahole, they need the $h1t kicked out of them for sure but it seems like there are geographical pools of psychos that are often one sex or another causing this division. Maybe this is by design, or some trends like males going their own way (after guys lost to psycho bychez who get together and spread their vile thoughts). The incel/femcel pooling and whatever else complicating matters with people who will only give it all for a limited amount of time but the question is how to get the actual non sick people (who would really give a marriage and children 100 percent as long as they live) to find each other and how to weed out actors actresses, the psycho bychez/aholes. In my experience more females were evil than males so I can see where Rick was coming from, he’s in a evil female pool with the males more likely being very docile and easy to manipulate. I would not recommend any single females I’ve met in the last 20 years to a truly kind hearted male docile male because the 2 girls that were good hearted got married. I have only been expressing my apologies to the males for all the bychez here pulling their schemes. There must be a way to sidestep these pools of psychopaths. I’m sure if the good hearted people could just meet each other the others would run out of prey and eventually hopefully change their ways or better at the least not have any children because it maybe genetic.
