TOOL releases for sale ‘Fetus in Skull’ statue today. The Fetus in Skull Maquette, half-scale collectible. Inspired by the artwork for 10,000 Days and Lateralus by Alex Grey.
Never really listened to Tool so I don’t know their actual meaning behind it and don’t recall any esoteric similarities but I’m sure someone here might. If I were to guess it would be “Brain Child” or “Undeveloped Mind”. Also “Fetus=life skull=death”.
Tool is talented but their major growth in popularity happened after they were on the second stage at Lollapalooza and were unknowingly dosed on high amount of LSD by Al Jourgenson (Ministry) and then turned their direction a bit more psychedelic. After that they became main stage performers.
Mentioned before but Al Jourgenson is an interesting point that links into everywhere – Timothy Leary guinea pig, 80s pop music (Ministry was a cheesy 80s pop band at the start), 90s alt music/Lollapalooza, Skinny Puppy (The Process Church of the Final Revelation – which itself was a spawn L Ron Hubbard’s Dianetics along with Charlie Manson).
It looks like a techno-goth birthday cake – the small, single sized ones you give to baby to adorably grab-to-shreds for the pics and videos, topped with the lab-grown fetuses inside the AI clear compartments (death head) they’ve just released to public knowledge. As they’ve just swiped another broad swath of natural human procreation out, this is their self-congratulatory trophy.
The Flaming Lips did something similar about 10 years ago — a gummy skull and a gummy fetus with associated songs on usb drives.
Yep, someone posted that couple months ago…Pretty freaky!
My pedo deacon pop had a rosary of glass or resin beads each with a tiny fetus inside.
They sell that stuff to nerds at catholic conventions by scrc really boring to be honest
You must listen to Burn the Priest.
I thank Tool everyday for: Prying Open My Third Eye!
Tool’s singer Maynard later formed the band A Perfect Circle, whose breakout hit was “Judith”, about Maynard being incredulous that his mom, despite being left wheelchair bound by a stroke, still had devout faith in the Lord.
FYI.
It’s a passionate song that I feel conflicted about listening to.
