This thing checks several boxes for me to be leery of it. One, extraterrestrials are often occultist code for demons, starting at least with Aleister Crowley and Lam. Two, making it gender neutral is in line with occult principles like the alchemical rebus. Three, it has a five pointed star on its little red overalls, an occult symbol I no longer trust. And four, it is wearing a red hat, an occult symbol of illumination with what looks like another star or sun on top. Yes, it’s cute but I don’t trust it. When libraries are facing constant funding pressure, they sure spent a lot of resources rebranding. Poor Bookstart Bear, I guess bears aren’t newfangled enough for the brave new world.
