Redundant to whom? Truly smart people would not try to make a society that makes billions redundant. They would look for ways to make society work for everyone who is and will be here.

Logans Run, The Hunger Games, Squid Games, and hundreds of others are introducing and getting people used to what is planned for the future.
I remember Logan’s Run. When the citizens reached the age of 30, they would have a huge “ceremony” for all turning 30 that year. Complete with red (sacrificial) clothing. Of course they were really being taken to be killed and disposed of.
