The main focal point is not only the video but the lyrics:
Cracker Island is a mysterious place introduced by 2-D in the song. On this island, an ancient cult was born, and 2-D is now a member of it. Previously, Gorillaz referred to it as The Last Cult and even invited fans to join it on his website HERE -The song describes what the cult means for him, the price to pay, and the benefits.
The lyrics are highly symbolic, so we are supposed to find the hints distributed on the lines:
On Cracker Island it was born
To the collective of the dawn
They were planting seeds at night
To grow a made-up paradise
Where the truth was auto-tuned
The lines above are the beginning of the song. What was born on Cracker Island is the cult, which will come later in the track. There is an ancient community that created the cult “to grow a made-up paradise.” The world promised by the cult is not purely natural: the song talks about a made-up paradise, and it uses the autotune metaphor (a tool that digitally stabilizes the voice in music production, often turning the human voice into a robotic one). That makes us think that we are talking about an artificial paradise:
In the end, I had to pay (What world is this?)
In the end, I had to pay (I purged my soul)
In the end, I had to pay (I drank to write)
I’ve got nothing more to say (I drank to write)
2-D paid with his soul to enter the cult. And the cult will deliver a new world to him. What does this world look like? We can find some more hints in the following lines:
What world is this?
In the end, it will be great (Beneath the hills)
I’m like a ship between the tide (I saw myself)
I held on, I surprise (Beneath the void)
In the end I’ll be okay (Forever cult)
Nothing more to say
From these lines, we understand that we don’t know how this new world will look. 2-D refers to this new world always in the future, so it has not arrived yet, although he already gave up his soul for it.

On Cracker Island it was born
To the collective of the dawn
They were planting seeds at night
To grow a made-up paradise
Where the truth was auto-tuned (forever cult)
And it’s sadness I consumed (forever cult)
Into my formats every day (forever cult)
In the end, I had to pay (what world is this?)
In the end, I had to pay (I purged my soul)
In the end I had to pay (I drank to write)
Nothing more to say (I drank to write)They taught themselves to be occult
They didn’t know its many strategies
They taught themselves to be occult
They didn’t know its many strategies (fantasies)What world is this?
What world is this?On Cracker Island it was raised (hey, hey, hey, hey)
By the collective from the grave (hey, hey, hey, hey)
It only came out at night (hey, hey, hey, hey)
It ate up their paradise (paradise)
Where the truth was auto-tuned (forever cult)
And it’s sadness I consumed (forever cult)
Into my formats every day (forever cult)
In the end, I had to pay (what world is this?)
Out there on my silver lake (I was not there)
In the end it will be great (beneath the hills)
I’m like a ship between the tide (I saw myself)
I held on, I surprise (beneath the void)They taught themselves to be occult
They didn’t know its many strategies
They taught themselves to be occult
They didn’t know its many strategies (fantasies)
(Ooh, ooh)On Cracker Island it will die (forever cult)
Join the collective in the sky (forever cult)
And on the shining bolt of light (forever cult)
Go out to paradise (what world is this?)
Where the truth is auto-tuned (I purged my soul)
And it’s sadness I consume (I drank to write)
Into my formats every day (I drank to write)
In the end I had to pay (forever cult)
In the end I had to pay (forever cult)
In the end I’ll be okay (forever cult)Nothing more to say (say, say, say, say)
Nothing more to say (say, say, say, say)
Nothing more to say (say, say, say, say)
This gave me crawling feelings. But the Groucho Marx quote, combined with the boy’s eyes gone blank white (instead of blank black) makes me think that the one world religion is doing its work.
“They taught themselves to be occult” – we programmed ourselves through acting recklessly with serious things and zero guidance, while abusing their substances (or being abused by them – hospital). So, when our chakras are abusively opened, depending on where we are spiritually and where our understandings are, we can literally be jetted up out of our own heads (entirely lose touch with reality). I know from experience that, without grounding in God, you can easily lose yourself.
I recently submitted a breakdown of the video little demons, which references The Rapture (broadcast) and even makes fun by showing a woman who just lifted the lid off a trashcan, as garbage begins levitating up, as she asks whether to attribute this event to media or to God or the Bible or whatever it was she said.
When you reach that crossroads of understanding you must be fully grounded in God and pray for His keeping to see you through whatever comes. That choice is far better made in advance now, before it may be no longer yours to make.
I can’t understand both lyrics and video
The band is starting to realize what they signed up for.
2-D has a Mickey Mouse hat on which seems to always be connected with mind control. But the ears are each a 7 pointed star. These are called heptagrams. It is supposed to represent protection from evil but it is also a symbol of Thelema. My guess is it’s the latter representation in this case. Gorillaz have slipped so much occult symbolism in their videos and art since the beginning.
