Yes let’s make occultism cute and funny for the kids. Surprisingly Nintendo’s been slipping things like this into their games since the beginning. This is just a more concentrated effort.

What about magic mushrooms giving you powers in Mario? Much has been written about the awakening of the third eye and it being connected with taking psilocybin and amanita mushrooms. I don’t claim to know all of this like the back of my hand and I’m sure users here would be able to shed more light on what these are used for. I assume to contact spirits as well. While it may be a coincidence that Mario gets his power from magic mushrooms, they could have very well chosen some other power source but they went with the mushroom and it’s been a staple ever since. Particularly the red ones with the white dots which I believe are unmistakably Amanita mushrooms. These grow almost exclusively beneath Pine trees. One of the active substances in the hallucinogenic mushroom is DMT 1, an Entheogen (God Within) naturally produced in the brain’s pineal gland.

Interestingly, I don’t have an issue with DOOM. They lampooned the topic amidst the Satanic Panic. I can get how it would be punk to push back against fundamentalist Christians who think EVERYTHING is Satanic.
This on the other hand… it’s just so well done and the culture at large should be aware that this stuff isn’t cute or funny or edgy. Satanic stuff is just gross.
