I’m starting to think these technologies have always existed in some form or another (nothing new under the sun) and they just hide, suppress, reveal in slow stages, then hit the populace with the hammer (of “god”) to frighten them in extreme ways as they cull at will, then once the population is diminished again, they relax, sit back, sweep it all back under the carpet and wait until they need to drag out a Great Spectacle again.
It’s basically the way they retain constant control but make all the big bada booms look like deus ex machina. Not their fault, they tried to help mankind, and on and on…
