That guy is smart – sometimes cutting from something entirely even if embarrassing is the best move. It is blind ego that will hold onto lost causes believing only you can save it
It screams money laundering or some other fishy thing…
“The reportedly $70 million movie (the source said the budget was actually more than $100 million), which was doing test screenings for audiences in anticipation of a late 2022 debut, would rank among the most expensive cinematic castoffs ever.”
“Those tests were said to be so poorly received by moviegoers that the studio decided to cut its losses and run, for the sake of the brand’s future. It’s a DC disaster.”
“Batgirl,” which stars Leslie Grace (“In the Heights”) in the title role, alongside J.K. Simmons, Michael Keaton and Brendan Fraser, was originally planned for an HBO Max release. The Puck newsletter reported in April that WB’s then-chair, Toby Emmerich, was considering a theatrical run for the film too.”
Typically egomaniacal studio heads disregard moviegoer feedback and start believing they can save a project. It is clear I think all the signs pointing to this movie being a monumental flop – so take the hit now instead of later when it’s much worse. It sounds like DC might finally get some real leadership (maybe sauron type leadership but hey I pull for interesting rather than driving some annoying agenda)
I also think that type of blind ego is a very human trait, weakness, flaw whatever you want to call it and many people experience it in their own way.
